What can you learn in a 30-50 minute lesson? Is it important to have many materials and textbooks? Is this the lesson style that you would like?
In Tokyo, there are many international schools; however they are far and expensive. What I was looking for was a school in Koto-Ku, with lessons lasting at least 3 hours. However, I was not able to find that school. That is why I decided to open Smile Club.
At Smile Club, there are children who have finished Nursery School, foreigners, and children who have a high level of English. Our classes are separated into proficiency levels. For example, children who have passed the Pre-2 level of the Japanese Eiken exam (the standardized English test in Japan) are in a separate class than those who are at a lower level.
Smile Club grew not from advertising or marketing, but from word of mouth through the community of Smile Club families. From families' requests, we began a Beginner class to study phonics and ABCs, an " "Adventure" class where the children learn hip hop dancing and crafts, as well as a "Baby & Me" class for mothers and their babies.
2011 is our 10th year. We have kept the same policy from the start. It remains very important to us to focus and grow with our one school. Our happiness comes from seeing the Smile Club children and families' happiness.
Our teachers' goal is to get to know and support each child through strong team work, in order to ensure peace and safety.
Every Monday morning the teachers have a meeting, where we discuss things we have noticed throughout the week. Twice a year, the teachers and staff gather for a teaching workshop. We are confident that through our curriculum and English teaching, we can provide a unique international learning environment and experience for the students.
Our pride is our strong teaching staff- we have an open communication which allows us to know about each student's physical and emotional health and well-being.
The most important is our tuition. Our school is affordable and tuition is paid monthy, rather than by term.
Pre-school and Kindergarten
We know that children learn new languages quickly as children.
Our motto is "fun, happy, smile!"
We have had students from all over the world, and our students interact with each other, free of prejudice or discrimination. During warm weather, we go to the park and play outside activities. In the summer, the children take swimming lessons. This leads to a fun and joyful study environment for the children.
Mental Care Support
U.S.-Certified Mari Yamashita has received a Master's Degree In Psychology, and has recently been contacted by a number a schools for advice and consultation.
In early childhood, there is a large amount of emotional change and growth. We focus on providing support and mental health care for our students and their families.
